what does he have to defend....it's a true statement.

Assuming, arguendo, it is a true statement, no competent individual would make such a statement. Ever. Under any circumstances.

You do not approach someone you're planning to negotiate with and say, "Oh, just wait -- I'm going to have more flexibility to give you what you want in a few months."

I can tell you with absolute certainty Putin laughed out loud at this. Only a rank amateur would have made such a blunder.

When you are negotiating you NEVER, EVER give up a strength without getting something in return. What Obama did was to give up a major strength -- i.e., "We are a democracy -- I don't have the flexibility to just give you everything you want" -- for nothing, whatsoever.

Contrast that with Reagan. After he slapped down PATCO, the Russians knew they were negotiating with a serious individual, and they have subsequently said so.

Obama's gaffe is one of the most incompetent actions I've ever seen by a president. A mistake George Bush would never, ever have made.

I don't expect you to see it because you're a liberal and as most liberals, you don't know shit about foreign policy. But leaders around the world thought, in unison, "WTF IS WRONG WITH THAT DAMNED FOOL?" when they saw this blunder.
