Up here in Canada we only get to deduct mortgage interest on revenue generating properties. There is no deduction on your main home or any others you may own unless they bring in revenue. We seem to muddle through just fine. Then again our corporate lobby seems far less efficient than our southern neighbors in the robbing of government funds.

What's so interesting about the US is the labelling and active political population division that goes on.

My father spends his winters in a suburb of Phoenix and I visit him occasionally. We do dinner at several of his friends houses. Other than the Canadians he knows down there, they are a mix of repubs and dems. Usually no dems get invited to repub gatherings and vice versa. We take some occasional heat at the repub gatherings, but don't bite. No sense being an ungracious guest in a foreign land.

We always chuckle about the free entertainment later.

You guys are going to have a tough time if you stay so stupidly divided imo.

I have heard statements from fellow dinner guests like "Our family has voted Democrat for 3 generations" (you can plug repub in there too) and I always think to myself, now there's a family that gave up free thought generations ago.
