I thought Window software are pretty much downloadable from the software house site already. It is not as well organized as an Apple store or even Android Play store (and Msft really has no control on any software distribution) but I have not use the CD player on my laptop for the last 3 years ..
Sure, but what we were talking about is legacy programs that people already own. Office 95 was mentioned, though I also can't see why anyone would want to run that even on a computer at this late date.

Yes, I suppose you can use a shared DVD drive from a PC, or whatever. But the people who brought this up were talking about replacing the PC.

BTW, you can view Office documents and spreadsheets on the iPhone and iPad already. And there are numerous ways to get access to them. There is also a program called Documents to Go, from DataViz, which allows you not only to view but to edit Word docs and Excel spreadsheets on the iPad.

No need to wait for Windows 8 to get that functionality.
