IMO, my original iPad delivers essentially the same experience as would a 7" version. The vast majority of the "iPad experience" is due to iOS, the apps, and the performance of the touchscreen.
OK, then you, and both Steve Jobs and I, disagree. ;-)

I mean, I disagree partially. Yes, the majority of the iPad experience is due to those factors. I'm just saying, as Jobs did, that shrinking iPad apps down to a smaller size would make all the controls difficult to use with normal-sized fingers, and would make the various graphical and textual elements much harder to read.

If you instead remake the interface for the smaller size, it would be fine. Just more work for developers. And that if a smaller iPad is going to be produced, that's what will have to happen.
