TIPS were first offered in 1997: personal.vanguard.com When my wife retired in 2001, I put her retirement annuity 100% into TIPS. There hasn't been much inflation to be protected against, but the fund has done much better than any other choices offered by TIAA/CREF. Participated in the general bond bull market and did better than plain bonds. Kept thinking the time would come to shift back into equities, but never have. Nice, steady, safe income.
