yes, i would call x86 compatible processors in todays market commodities. most of intels success is related directly to their branding. if people did not walk into compusa saying they want a computer with INTEL INSIDE, manufacturers would not have to cow tow to intel. and if people didnt do that, it would be a lot harder to get those 58% margins.

well you may be right. with the economic problems, asia is will have a difficult time getting the efficiencies in place that TI already has. and with TI having fabs in asia they cant be beat as easily. but, the japanese are still fairly well capitalized and they have a lot of experience, as well as fabs throughout the world.
