Except that according to wikipedia as of January there were around 245 of them in the US, while BB has something like 1200. In many states the coverage is zero for vast parts of that particular state. For instance, Illinois has 9 stores according to Apple's website, ALL of them in the Chicago area. Indiana has two stores, the entire state of Maine, one, and so on....

I don't think it would make a bit of difference if they closed their doors tomorrow.

You're right, it might not, especially if Best Buy continues their online presence.

Actually it might be helpful if those people who would have bought at Best Buy go to an Apple store instead.

Best Buy operates 1,150 stores worldwide, whereas there are only about 300 Apple Stores. However, I don't know how many of those Best Buy stores have the Apple store-within-a-store setups, not nearly as many for sure.

Apple needs to open more Apple Stores, the current ones are far too busy. To quote Yogi Berra, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

I agree, Annie. It's just like the situation with Wal-mart. People don't just become aware of the iPad and develop an interest in buying it because they see it on the shelf at Best Buy or some other store. They go in to the store looking for it, or at minimum, already being aware of it.

I believe that's true, anyway. I don't have hard data to back it up. But given the very widespread awareness of each new Apple product in the populace at large, I'm sure it's true.

My hand therapist, who knows pretty much nothing about technology, has been talking to me about whether to buy an iPhone or an iPad. She wants to wait until the "new iPhone," as she refers to it, comes out before she makes her decision. She says she has heard the new iPhone will be out in June.
