...and in my view Sun has more innovation in its little finger than Microsoft does in the whole company

What has Sun innovated? What has MS innovated?

Microsoft's strength is in taking new and existing technology and making it available and useful to desktop computer users. That is its only goal. To that end, they have done an incredible job. Have thay made a lot of innovations? Yes, they have. Have they taken a lot of ideas from others? Of course, every company has.

What has Sun done? They have done a great job making servers and workstations. Their hardware really does drive the web. I wouldn't consider Java an innovation - they have simply taken an interpreted language and added netowrk specific functionality to it. Is it important? Sure.

If you think Microsoft doesn't innovate, you don't know much about Microsoft.

As for the $40 Internet Explorer Packs - they will go away when Windows98 and NT5 comes around, because it will be part of the OS. There will still be retail packages for older Windows versions, but it will always be free for download.
