Next time you're in Vegas check out the Atomic Museum on Flamingo just off the strip. I just spent a good chunk of today in their research library. I forget the title but there is a book that covers the story of the miners that dug the uranium ore. In most cases they were Native American and the government of the time knew full well the risks associated with handling the hot commodity. I have no faith in human behavior being self correcting.
