That correction pattern is called high and tight . Small trading range ( tight ) and up in the % retrace zone . Not sure if IBD started it but stocks usually break out to the upside .

Another variation on high and tight is when the stock runs up on great news . Corrects on a straight tight line . Usually waiting on a continuation of the good news .

Which one is the original high and tight ? Not sure .
