BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- A Thiokol Propulsion CASTOR 120® first stage motor today launched Lockheed Martin's Athena I vehicle with its first international and commercial payload: ROCSAT-1. The ROCSAT-1 is the Republic of China National Space Program Office's (NSPO's) first civil spacecraft. The spacecraft houses three experiments to be conducted over the next year: relay Ka-band telecommunications, ionization measurement in the upper atmosphere, and color imaging of the ocean. The Republic of China's spacecraft was designed and built in modules to allow for different size payloads and to fit different launch vehicles without major redesign and testing for each use.
