That article is about the use of OpenStreetMaps in iPhoto.

I'm still expecting them to produce their own navigation app for iOS, though, and this may be foreshadowing.

openstreetmaps has one advantage over googlemaps that I can see, they post accurate addresses. That is somewhat helpful

googlemaps advantages:
- street view - totally essential to me - AMAZING how many streets are included
- get directions - particularly using the street view part of get directions - essential
- terrain view - very useful
- satellite view - very useful
- photos - very useful - particularly in areas where street view is not available
- business building outlines on regular view
- traffic - somewhat helpful, more helpful when I have a smart phone
- bicycle and mass transit routes - getting more helpful
- 45 degree view and earth is not helpful to me but may be to others

I cannot see how Apple could afford to not include googlemaps. If I could not use googlemaps on an iPhone the way I use it now I would not buy an iPhone. I cannot see how Apple could amass the types of databases google has amassed, particularly street view data. The would have to outfit thousands of cars and hire thousands of people just as google has done. It would take them some time.

Took a trip to this area last week. Could not have planned it without googlemaps. Essential.
