The other thing about data...you can use or ignore data to support whatever position you want...in this case the author of the Motley Fool article goes back to 1926 and is able to support the case that the Buy and Hold strategy was superior compared to the Sell in May strategy. However, your data supports the fact that since 1950, Sell in May was superior. And like Wayners says, the most recent data over the last five years clearly shows that Sell in May was the way to go. Just sayin'...seems to me that readers need to be careful before making investing decisions based on historical data.
