"One would still require justification in order to know either that God exists or that He does not exist, which is the question we’re really interested in.

So why, you might wonder, would atheists be anxious to so trivialize their position? Here I agree with you that a deceptive game is being played by many atheists. If atheism is taken to be a view, namely the view that there is no God, then atheists must shoulder their share of the burden of proof to support this view."

I am not surprised to find such gutter “argumentation” copy and pasted by a mindless gutter snipe!

The atheistic belief that there is no evidentiary basis for a belief in spaghetti monsters, unicorns, or gods is not uniform because all people are by various degrees removed from certainty. Most atheists understand that lack of evidence does not scientifically preclude any possibilities, therefore lack of evidence does not mean the moon is not made of green cheese--only that proposing the affirmative is childish, useless, and irrational. What is meant by atheism is simply that there is no rational basis for any of the thousands and thousands of gods invented and imagined by man and that affirming the existence of something based merely and solely on imagination is to disrespect the mind, disregard reason, and to insult all that makes our species wonderful. It is to denigrate and curse the “sapiens” of our name.

It gains nothing to the superstitious and uneducated position to spend thousands of hours of midnight oil analyzing why “a” need not mean “not” and so forth. The pewling and mewling of barbaric idiots does not inform and it does not enlighten. These are word games which is the final refuge of losers bereft of all logical discourse and argument.

An atheist finds no evidence for a god and, additionally, is able to refute all pretence to any evidentiary basis. Simple. The theist is done like a turkey! An atheist does not claim there is no irrational basis for a god. Obviously, there are believers in thousands of varieties and styles of gods promoting the welfare of certain groups of special people who pray and tithe and handle the sword appropriate to the demands of their particular deity! But none of those irrational claims for a deity have any logic to give weight to their beliefs. Not rocket science! People who do not believe in spaghetti monsters are not required to invent the premises of the affirmative and then refute those premises! The obligation to prove imaginary constructs of the mind is on the claimant. You want Insurance to cover your house, you gotta show there was a fire--you gotta make a verifiable claim. Otherwise...there was no fire and there is no claim.

Clearly, a belief there is no God is a theological belief, iow a religious belief.
