Headline: Analyst Says Compaq's U.S. Corporate Channel Inventory Is Down

======================================================================
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Compaq Computer Corp.'s inventory of computers
designed for U.S. corporate use is at least two weeks smaller than it
was a year ago, according to a report released Tuesday by Deutsche
Morgan Grenfell Inc.
Compaq's (CPQ) inventory in its corporate channel is between
six-and-a-half and eight weeks, compared with the 10-week inventory this
time last year, said Steven Fortuna, channel analyst for DMG Technology
Group.
The difference was attributed to improvements in Compaq's ability to
manage its channel inventory, Fortuna said.
Compaq's worldwide inventory was even lower - five weeks now,
compared with 12 weeks a year ago, according to another Deutsche Morgan
Grenfell report released Tuesday.
