His statement promoting the housing bubble should be sufficient to keep him from being offered any substantial government position, thank Heavens. He will be relegated to spewing his nonsense on the pages of the NYT.

At the end, he is a fashionista economist.

He'll reflect whatever is trendy on his bully pulpit at the NYT. You might recall that back then (2002), media-for-the-dumb-and/or-for- the-chattering-classes was preaching the notion that the US consumer was the world's savior, never mind that the consumer was getting in hock over his ears with consequences we now see.

The man is a joke, but he does have the ears of the editorial board at the NYT, ensuring that his nonsense will be read and believed by a great many who do not make the effort to understand the issues.
