From briefing,

08:53 ET Intel (INTC)78 1/8: Morgan Stanley lowers fiscal 1998 earnings estimate from $4.20 per share to $4.00 but leaves rating and price target unchanged, so they are stepping lightly even though they cite pricing concerns as reason for lower earnings estimate. So far, no indications as to open.

Charels: In the wake of all this doom and gloom about S.E.Asia and Japan, it seems natural for the analysts to reduce the earnings estimate of various companies.I think actually it is a good thing,since these analysts were going overboard with their overblown estimates and 'whisper number' etc. It is time they come down to earth.

Michael Dell on CNBC: Said they are quickly moving to 100% Pentium II. Said Asia represent 6% of their market. Said now that Asia is further behind due to the "contagion", Asia will probably accelerate its adoption of information technology.
