Here's a very interesting article describing why wealth accumulation amongst the populations 1% is occuring and why it is good.

The key point made here is that the super rich are responsible for advancing the standard of living in the USA because they are mostly investors and not consumers as a large percentage of their wealth is reinvested in our economy as compared to being consumed.
