Great article. I would prefer to see an all Canadian route for pipeline(s) to the east, even if it is more expensive, for reasons of national economic security. History tells us that when the USA can stick it to Canada, they do so. I can envision some kind of tax or "transit surcharge" put on Canadian oil transiting the USA because they can. Good fences make for good neighbours.

axial: I'm not opposed to a privately financed and managed bitumen pipeline to eastern Canada.

But I am opposed to a government-subsidized pipeline.

If you are swayed by the TransCanada's CEO's rhetoric, good for you. If you think retrofitting the existing natural gas pipeline can be done cost effectively. Good for you. I'm not.

Can you and others debate this without behaving in a sleazy manner? If not, count me out.
