Even though we recently left another battlefield unresolved and are about to do it again, we must maintain a national defense capability.

The dedication, bravery and loyalty of our soldiers is intact. So long as Americans continue to support the troops, we have no reason to fear post-Vietnam like reverberations.

We have not won a war since we built the Pentagon at the end of WWII and simultaneously created DOD to occupy the building.
DOD has become the losing arm of our armed forces.

My recommendation is this. Instead of arbitrarily cutting Army troop strength by 80,000 and the USMC by 20,000 let's begin the post war analysis and soulsearching by addressing our real achilles heal and redesign, reduce, and streamline DOD.
