Adding this thought about alerts.

Everyone has the same problem. We cannot rely on a government alert system.
On a global, national and local basis, lots of things are coming to a head. We need to be ready to implement personal emergency plans in stages. Just need to settle on key warnings and indications to activate.

I agree with your ideas about preparation and have put many of them into practice. I bought 3 of your books, kept one copy for myself and gave the other two to our sons. The color alert system lets me know how serious the threat is. Imo is a good tool to use for communication between companies, govts and individuals.

Officials were supposed to abandon the color coded alert system in '10, but they obviously didn't. I know every time I go into the NF I see the Forest Service is still using it on their "Level of Fire Danger" signs.
