U.S. Census Bureau: the 2010 Census showed the resident population of the United States on April 1, 2010, was 308,745,538.

1970: 203,392,031

1960: 179,323,175

Looks like about a 33% increase from 1970 to 2010....

So, many tens of millions more workers NOW then in 1970 (even if we factor back in a couple of points drop in the labor participation rate.)
