Tight integration of CORBA is going to accelerate the turn-around effort at Borland, especially in the enterprise. Having said that, $140,000,000 would have purchased a considerable number of licenses. Unfortunately, upbeat comments by proven-loser-turned- Borland-executive Zack Urlocker don't make me overly confident in their ability to leverage this. This is the same fellow who called the Internet a fad not that long ago.

Although responsible for the shabby, unprofessional documentation and support materials, incompetent product managers are the least of BORL's problems. The article is correct, Sybase and Symantec will use alternative sources for CORBA technology and Borland will be left holding a $140,000,000 implementation of an open standard.

Interesting article...

Thanks for posting this article, Richard. Quite a sober assessment of the situation. Unlike an ex-user of Entera I spoke with on Wednesday, who described Borland as "where middleware goes to die".

I think he was quite bitter.
