I don't infer from Einhorn's experience with Allied Capital that he believes all BDC's are inherently dangerous and should be avoided or shorted. His Greenlight Capital, for example, still seems to have a small position in FSC (As do I... a losing position currently).

Some new interest in IR.

In its S.E.C. filing, Trian said it had taken the stake because it believed the company's shares were "currently undervalued in the market place and represent an attractive investment opportunity." The firm also said it "intends to meet and have conversations with members of the board and senior management" of Ingersoll-Rand to discuss possible options for the business, "including a restructuring of its key business segments."

Risk is an issue that you aren't ready for in discussing BDCs based on your initial post. If SI had a unrecommend feature, I would use it for your response. I can't argue with your response because it does not make sense. Risk is inherent in any investment. BDCs are not for you and understanding that you don't understand them would simplify the discussion.

I started a new thread for discussion on seasonal investment. I don't know a thing about it, but thought it might be interesting to explore it.
