What a huge reaction to a "civil union," law stoppage. If you are so concerned, you can draw up a partnership deal.

Most insurance plans now cover "domestic partners," you can name anyone you like as your insurance and 401k beneficiary, and most of the other benefits of marriage are covered by a power of attorney, living will, and a will. So you don't get to file taxes jointly, that's about the only thing not covered by other legal means.

It's not about the benefits of marriage, which is the excuse that is always used.
