Second, and more importantly, having done such a thing how can he now say that he doesn't recall it? If anyone had done what 5 sources said he did and hadn't had it lodge in their conscience like a rock in their shoe then they've got an empathy problem.
The story seems credible, as do the witnesses who tell it.

If it did happen, which appears likely, I'm quite sure Willard remembers it. He just doesn't have the guts to admit to having done it.

Once again, it seems like those who love to carp about personal responsibility don't make a habit of walking the walk.

I'm sure he has changed, however. These days I have no doubt that he wouldn't do such a thing. He'd hire someone to do it for him.

Greetings, Ed. Long time . . .

You misunderstand my point. And perhaps I stated it a bit too quickly.

What Romney did as a kid in this incident should have been punished. No question.

What Romney does as an adult in denying he can remember this is so much par for the course for him that it goes into a very large bucket of much more important such denials.

As for how much the initial deed should weight in one's assessment of him as a candidate, that's my point. I simply don't see it as all that important. The contemporary denial is much more important because it fits the much larger pattern.
