I hope you are correct. I don't think anyone in the world can make a more desirable instrument than Apple. But I still do not trust the chinese.

I own both Apple and Baidu, therefore I follow both closely. China has 1.3B people, and when I was there, it seemed that everyone was talking on the cell phone. iPhone is a status symbol and pricey that only a portion of the population can afford. What Baidu is targeting for $ 159/each is that segment of the market of the population that want a smart phone that is affordable.

Remember that in 2011 Buick Excelle was the best selling cars in China, and it is a status symbol. Geely is the domestic Chinese auto manufacturer and it is not a threath to Buick.

I don't think we have to worry about Chinese government preferring Baidu over Apple. The government is more worried about censorsing information that could cause civil unrest. We cannot compare Google vs Baidu to the latter making inexpensive smart phones as a concern for Apple.
