It's the cap gains on his facebook ipo shares down the road that he will avoid paying tax on. Plus any buffett tax down the road. Some tax lawyers were likely consulted. Then again, maybe he just doesn't like where the US is heading, sees his future in Asia like Jimmy Rogers and figures now's the time to make a move.

US Cap gains rate is 15%. On the low end worldwide but there are a number of countries where it's zero. Strangely enough those countries seem to be doing well.

I suspect the US outlook had as much to do with it as the cap gains rate.

He IS going to beat US taxes by giving up his citizenship.

On the bright side, he's one less Obama vote.
