It's a systemic illness. It will need a systemic cure. Even if the left was composed of all angels, which it's not, it would take more than the left to cure the system. Unfortunately both sides are complicit in most of America's follies- like the drug "war", and the stupid incursions in the ME.

What we hippies did that was so important, but also problematic, was we ushered in the existential culture which we have today, more or less. Most of the massive jail problem has been caused by the right wing's stupid war on drugs launched by that criminal Nixon to get back at teh hippies and furthered by that brain dead Nancy Raygun and her brain dead husband. npr.org
