It's a systemic illness. It will need a systemic cure. Even if the left was composed of all angels, which it's not, it would take more than the left to cure the system. Unfortunately both sides are complicit in most of America's follies- like the drug "war", and the stupid incursions in the ME.

<<I think Johnson's Great Society our increased diversity post 1965 Immigration act, drug culture unleashed on us by your hippie generation, the record wealth disparity gap here in the states, the unyielding power of the NRA and our for profit prison industrial complex had a lot to do with it.. Bottom line I have as much hate for the right wing as you do but it goes so much deeper IMHO.>>

Much of what you post above was just a part of cultural and other evolutionary manifestations. How we dealt with those things is what mattered.

1)E.g. Johnson's great socieity had to be implemented and we are still honing it as we are still in the early ages of a civilzed society.

2)Diversity is a manifestation of the global village.

3)Immigration is an existential issue Americans have to make decisions about.

4) The drug culture was only unleashed by the hippies as we were ahead of our time. it was going to be unleashed sooner or later.

What we hippies did that was so important, but also problematic, was we ushered in the existential culture which we have today, more or less.

Most of the massive jail problem has been caused by the right wing's stupid war on drugs launched by that criminal Nixon to get back at teh hippies and furthered by that brain dead Nancy Raygun and her brain dead husband.
