You should have included the actual numbers for the U.S. I disagree with the low rates provided.

On $100,000 gross income
the Federal Income Tax is about $18,000
the SS Payroll Tax is about $4300 x 2 = $8600
the Medicare Payroll Tax is $1500 x 2 = $3000
Std Deduction and 1 Personal Exepmption =$9500
Taxable Income = $90500
Total Income Taxes = $29600
Tax Rate on Taxable Income = 32.7%

The really big difference between countries isn't necessarily how much the tax rates are and the amounts paid but what do you actually get in return for your tax dollars as services that the middle class actually needs and uses. Redistribution of Wealth, interest payments on debt and fancy toys and travel by Govt agencies aren't really beneficial. I've heard from relatives who have roots in Germany and live there that unlike the United States, you actually get something of value with the tax dollars.
