Linda. I feel your pain. Why is it that when you feel you have to sell is invariably the most unpropitious time to sell? However, if VLSI proves a better buy than the CADE-BDLS-BOSCF troika, you'll be glad you did. I requested the AIM program but have been afraid to unzip it because I know I'll mess up my fragile config & autoexec thingees when I do. You don't suppose AIM could be translated into English do you? Hope you will give me a summary of how it worked for you in VLSI. In case you have trouble sleeping tonight, come back and read the following thoughts on the Asia thing. I can't see why economic commentators haven't made a connection between current Asian woes and the emergence of China as an economic power. I bought golf clubs recently and the heads were made in China. Electronic components are almost as likely to be made in China as in Japan. Piece good labels may say made in Malaysia or Mexico or India or CHINA. As China's industries gain sophistication, their competition with Japan and Korea will be even more and more direct. Soon, we'll probably see disk drives, cameras, and earth moving equipment with Chinese names. We confer most favored trade nation status (not meant as a political comment) and now owe them a bundle. Their people are industrious but still willing to work largely for sustenance. They may be the Japan of 20-30 years ago. I don't see a bailout of any scale having the quickly beneficial effect in Asia we saw in Mexico. The scope is too large and there is no NAFTA working in the background for it. I believe the G-7, the RIM, Europe and the U.S. will have to come to grips with this phenomenon and learn how best to deal with it fairly and effectively. Eventually the urge for higher standards of living among the Chinese should tend to ameliorate the problem. In the meantime I believe I would buy the China Fund in preference to other Asian stocks I can think of. Sleep well Princess, OH
