Sorry, but that is a right wing myth. People who are truly given a chance in life usually take it. Most of what the right wing mistakes for slovenly behavior is really insecurity and lack of know how. I am from the ghetto and know it well. Most of my friends made it out because of the local community college. Contra costa college. Half of Richmond launched themselves off that college to fully functioning upstanding members of society and self sufficient middle class people who didn't need any welfare at all. Can't underestimate the power of education. It is what civilzes people, not religion. <<No brainer there, but my question/thesis is that a welfare check gets in the way of this. It gives the woman a cop out and the man too. >>
