Skeptic, <I've been reading all of this stuff for a couple of months. Most of these stories implicitly describe failures that would occur if Y2K happened today. > Sorry Skeptic ... you made an assumption here. You must have glanced at the headlines and summary only (and not all of them). To REALLY understand, it takes time ... but you have to READ the referenced links. <The fact that someone has detected the problem makes it very likely that it will be fixed. > There's a lot of EXPERTS in economics, IT, engineering, government, and most importantly, people working for companies who have a problem, and are involved in the fix - who disagree with you. You really have to read EVERYTHING in my last post to you.techstocks.com <What if everyone on the planet was fully aware of the extent of the problem and the potential economic ramifications. Could we muster the resources to avert disaster? > You did get one of the main points. NO ... we would be able to muster the resources. <If the stock market were to suddenly discount the probable economic impact of Y2K (maybe a 50% drop?), we would instantly have everyone's attention. > Oh, we'll have everyone's attention starting around April/May '98 when 10K's will be including Y2K disclaimers. Plus, Y2K remediation costs MUST be taken in the year they are incurred. So, we'll immediately see some negative impact on the bottom line. Don't expect 50% drop then, but you'll DEFINITELY see some reaction. I appreciate your taking the time and effort to try to understand this problem. Unfortunately, I don't have time to debate issues. I prefer to use my time compiling additional research and trying to pull the pieces of the Y2K puzzle together ... which hopefully will be of benefit to some on this thread. Cheryl
