I believe it needs noted that the Greeks did not suffer a natural disaster, no earthquake (they are susceptible) no floods, no fires, just ~40 years of very liberal polices with respect to pensions, work hours and non-compliance with Greek laws. The current Greek economic problems are self-imposed. I will not make analogies although the thought is tempting. All from the very Nation that brought us civilization, the first nation states, etc., etc.

Well, then, let me add.............I was being nice with my reference to MS. The reality is that MS gets more back in federal taxes that it pays to Washingon. That means that every state in which I have lived since birth has paid more federal taxes to DC than it gets back................in order to keep MS solvent. How is that any different than what is happening with Greece?

Also I concur with part of your thought process. I believe the Germans would be @ the forefront of any recovery effort from a natural disaster.

I am not so sure your observation is correct. The Germans are very reluctant to give a hand out to Greece no matter the circumstance. They have made that clear in every poll. In fact, I don't think the Germans see themselves as one state in a many state republic which is what the EU is.

The same would apply in America if & when-it will happen-a large earthquake devastates a portion of California. In closing, is America to bail out the current & politics as usual for example of California if California were to become insolvent?

I would hope so since CA and other blue states have been carrying many of the red states for years.............decades even [see above].
