Not an apples to apples comparison in my book. We're all Americans first and (insert name of state) second. This is because we actually had to fight and die and unite to achieve nationhood unlike Europeans who have sought to achieve continental unity by signing pieces of paper.

More apples to apples that you seem to think. With the exception of the original colonies and TX there was little fighting involved in growing the US. The Louisiana purchase; the west coast......... most of CA, OR and WA; Hawaii and Alaska were gotten by signing pieces of paper. And while the EU isn't a full fledged Republic like the US, its very similar in organization.

Europeans think of themselves as Greeks, Germans etc. first with their own cultural traditions paramount and Europeans second. Their values are too diverse too accept responsibility for other states, as we shall soon see as Greece will be forced to exit the Federation since it won't accept it's rules.

Yes, they haven't been a country as long as we have. Their loyalties are divided. But that is true of the US as well. In the beginning many Americans had difficulty of one nation under God..........hence our civil war,.

And unlike an "Act of God" tornado the Greeks systematically lived beyond their means and now seek others to pay for their profligacy. And charitably enough others were willing to do it up to a point, but even so the Greeks don't even say thank you. Enough already

Most of the red states live beyond their means and have never thanked those of us making up their deficits. Do you want to jettison them?
