StockMan: Please explain "revenue sharing" projects and how they differ from "revenue generating" projects. It seem to me that revenue, whether shared or not, is still generated by performing worthwhile activities at a client site. Unless it's a for-free pilot. In that case, it's not "revenue sharing". It's more like "expense-sharing".

Some interesting calculations that I've been thinking about while I was sitting here twiddling my thumbs ...

According to a flashy flyer in the CSGI packet handed out at the company meeting, the Millennium Enterprises project covered "approximately 1.4 million lines of COBOL".

Part of the process that is not "fully automated" is the client's responsibility to confirm the list of date datanames and references. According to the flyer, "date occurrences and date origins - that is, the first occurrence of each series of connected references" were referred to MEI for client confirmation. And, "in this case, the 1,300 confirmations were completed in two days." Then, "conversion rules were applied automatically to over 24,000 date references".

So, how long would the confirmation process take in a site with 15 million lines of code? Assuming 1 percent of the LOC are date fields (1,300 of 1.4 million LOC), then there should be approximately 15,000 date fields in 15 million LOC.

1,300 confirmations in 2 days equals 650 per day. Give them the benefit of the doubt ... 750 per day. That means it will take approximately 20 days to confirm the date fields. That's a work month.

The good news is that theoretically, the 17% (24,000 / 1.4 million) of the LOC that need to be converted will be done automatically. That's about 250,000 references.

Sure am glad I'm retired.
