Yardstick one: Waiting to walk into a coffee shop with a friend on a beautiful Santa Cruz morning and a dopehead is passed out on the floor in front of the door surrounded by several police and paramedics trying to save his life. Several police cars there, and an ambulance waiting to take him to the hospital. Guess who paid for all this? You get two choices: 1. The druggie lying out cold on the floor who probably just visited the "medical marijuana" shop a block away? 2. The taxpayers of the city, county, state, fed? BTW: What do you suppose the druggie spent his next dollar on after sucking up all those police, fire department, HOSPITAL dollars? Two choices: 1. MORE DRUGS 2. MORE DRUGS PS: My friend was dismayed that they revived the guy. I'm a bit more soft-hearted and didn't actually wish it. But wouldn't have felt bad if it happened.
