You buy puts to protect in the near term if you think the stock is moving down due to temporary setbacks.

If you believe that the stock is fundamentally overvalued and will slide over a longer period then you will want to sell the stock outright.

Since most of the members of this thread believe RMBS is only headed up (the Longs) I assumed that they see the last two days as a temporary setback and may want to buy puts. Since I believe that RMBS is overvalued I have sold short.
