Trayvon was justified to take whatever action he deemed necessary to protect his life.
Trayvon could have stopped before getting a full mount position on top of Zimmerman and pounding his head into the ground.

At that point, Trayvon isn't protecting his own life, but instead trying to teach Zimmerman who's boss.

Now it's Martin fearing for his life and the 5ft. 9in. Zimmerman is the BIG guy. You are a piece of work.
I think Martin fancied himself as some sort of fighter (recall the staged You Tube fights) and figured he would head back and kick the LITTLE guys ass.
