Cabeças Chatas progridem:
Brazil's historically poor northeast finally gets its boom

The balance has shifted so far that many who traditionally would have taken high-paying professional jobs in the southeast are heading to places like Recife instead.

Growth of Brazil is 'lifting the bottom'. It is distorted because it is correcting structural distortions .

It is dirigiste in its nature. DIrigiste as 'directed by the state'. Therefore Brazil, like like all the BRICs cannot be understood applying the body of knowledge used for other countries.

Because capitalism in Brazil was savage capitalism, the state is directing Brazil to a more civilized form of capitalism. It did that because Brazil was in accelerated process of Africanization in the early 90's.

That, the governing elites discovered, would end up toppling them in some future social unrest that could lead -most likely- to Balkanization of the country.

Tame inflation. Civilize capitalism. Lift the bottom of society. Leading to social peace and governing elites could continue enjoying their privileged position.

Govering elites read the writing on the wall and -out of self perservation instinct- change the country.

That action, compared that with the coups and counter coups of the past to keep the same elite entrenched was progress.
