on my bucket list

I'd recommend anyone with the time go through Randle to the Windy Ridge overlook, where you stare straight into the crater.

I was at the ocean during the second eruption, riding a scooter. A change in the engine pitch had me convinced that 78 mph was the proper cruising speed, so that's how I drove.

Anyway I left. A light drizzle, later serious rain, was settling the ash. When I slowed at an intersection approach the bike skittered and slid on a very slick thin paste. A few miles up the road cars were sliding off the highway where it was banked.

I got home OK, but had a time getting off the bike. The suction seal on the saddle was hard to break.
