San Leon Energy encouraged by initial results of Siciny-2 well in Poland

San Leon Energy (LON:SLE) reported that the results of a technical evaluation of its Siciny-2 well proved the huge upside potential of the Carboniferous basin of Poland.

The company has now completed the initial evaluation phase of the core and petrophysical data from Siciny-2, which was drilled to a depth of 3,250 metres earlier this year, encountering continuous gas shows throughout the Carboniferous interval.

Based on the results of the analysis of the core, San Leon has been able to evaluate quality of five prospective zones for unconventional gas accumulations.

The company identified 151 metres of net oil pay in Zone 1, giving it a free gas in place estimate of 163 billion cubic feet (bcf) with total gas estimated at 193 bcf.

Over the 240 metre second zone, 32 metres have been identified as net pay with potential net pay of 188 metres. Calculated free gas in place for the interval is estimated to be 64 bcf with a total 97 bcf.

In addition to the two deeper intervals, San Leon has evaluated three potentially prospective upper shale gas zones. Additional analysis is now required to understand the reservoir properties and long term potential of these zones.

Future testing and potential fracing of these intervals is pending testing of the deeper tight gas zones, which are believed to have significantly higher potential for commercial production.

“We are more than encouraged by the potential of the Carboniferous to be a significant gas producer in Poland,” said chairman of San Leon Oisin Fanning.

“The initial results of the Siciny-2 well are very exciting and we plan to move forward in testing several of the prospective intervals in the well in the near future.”

The well was cased for future operations including pressure testing of the prospective zones, a dynamic formation integrity test (DFIT) and possible vertical fracture stimulation and production testing across several intervals.

San Leon is currently acquiring a 3D seismic survey over the Siciny-2 well location and surrounding prospective area, which is expected to be finished in August.

How is this possible? Exxon drilled two small exploratory wells and concluded that there's no commercial
shale gas in all of Poland and pulled out rather than drill on their other concessions.
