Yup--but elderly people were losing their homes because of the run up in Calif. real estate values which made their property taxes unaffordable for fixed income people and that is why it passed.


BS. Prop 13 was passed in the 1970s. At that time, CA housing prices tracked the national averages. Prop 13 was an example of rich white folk wanting to get richer in a hurry.

Well, tell the rest of the story. They capped the taxes instead of simply giving a deduction for seniors. In my town we have a $150,000 deduction for seniors, but we don't cap it.

I remember that law and it was another case of right wingers who hated the social system they rely on, putting a stupid draconian law into place and in such a way that the legislature cannot fix it. And since then the social systems has fallen apart and the educational system, once the greatest in the nation seriously compromised.
