The four main fabs that are capable of producing 28 nm chips have all announced substantial leading technology Capex. This will boost the semi group as Photovoltaic and Display glass have declined and seem to be leveling out.

Amat bought Vsea.

Lrcx bought Nvls

Ate bought verigy

The sector is merging into a few very large players.

This sector is getting less cyclical and some pay a 3 .0 % plus dividend as growth steadies and flat production techniques work out the terrible troughs that used to haunt the sector.

Per the latest reports ASML surpassed AMAT for the number one position. These numbers do not include Varian, so AMAT may possibly regain the top position.

Several recent analyst reports vary widely in opinion on AMAT from buy to avoid. Seems like the avoid and/or mixed ratings stem from the weakness in AMAT's solar division which is undergoing restructuring.
