prices usually tracked the US housing market. That changed after prop 13.........it helped make housing more a commodity than a long term investment. Again, Prop 13 was not the only causation.......there were other factors at play

Also remember the big cities of the east coast also really diverged from the rest of the country starting around the same time. NYC and Boston were quite affordable in the mid 70's too. Amazing we had more conversation related to RE on this board the past week than the Housing Crash board might have in two years <g>
