You and I personally paid for raising our children - even while we also paid for other people's Medicare, social security and welfare. The question can be asked - why can't our children do the same? Because it will bankrupt them - the costs are much higher, and the ratio of payers vs. recipients is heading towards being unsustainable. Too may of us, to few of them. It seems to me that all government sponsored contracts between generations end up being unstable, and there is always a generation which is likely to get screwed. Presently, it could be ours.
