Yes indeed ...

The TSA says all its employees go through a criminal background check before they’re hired, but because these cases are so old, criminal charges were not filed

Unfortunately, that is the truth. There would be nothing on his criminal record concerning the cases, and unless the Catholic Church was contacted and was truthful about the reason he left the employ of the church .... no way for TSA to find out about the past (criminal) conduct. I doubt seriously the Church would have been that open, they probably fear he might then sue them.

I am not sure exactly what information can be released when a former employer is contacted. One would hope information such as this would be related, however I seriously doubt the Church was even contacted. It's more matter of the numbers of Background checks the TSA has to do more than anything else, but it seems like neglect on their part in this instance.

He should not be allowed to work where he could come into contact with any young children (under 18, maybe).
