The only thing standing in the way of the status quo are the grass roots activists. They are currently organized and called The Tea Party. It is why they are so viscerally despised. They actually have the power to move legislation in a different direction and the entrenched politicians are scared stiff. So far their only response to this movement has been vitriol, and Saul Alinksy tactics but they aren't working and the TP is growing and winning more and more contests. We could still use a lot more help.
