George,

So, if you were the last person on earth, would you choose to live or to die? I would choose to live, perhaps for no better reason than that I do not want to die.

Because I choose life, I also choose reason, the "A-is-A" crap.

George,

I have a 17-year-old son. What do you suppose concerns me, as his father?

A) Does he do drugs?
B) Is he doing well at school?
C) Does he watch TV?

Hint: neither of the two that concern most parents, but rather the one that most parents consider harmless (unless it's a show about sex, of course).

Why do you make such allowances for the mindless masses?

Skipper

George, although I have given up trying to please you, I hope you have not gone away or anything. It is almost time for the fourteen thousandth post, and I know you get excited by milestones. Perhaps if we all drink a LOT of coffee, we could hit 20,000 by the holidays!!!

I prefer quality and thoughtfulness of expression to sheer quantity, though, so that is certainly not a challenge!!!

I found another Montague poem that is easier to understand than that last one, George!! This one is about the rhythm of the sea, in a way, which attracts me because I am a Pisces, probably. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it:

Tides

The window blown
open, that summer
night, a full moon

occupying the sky
with a pressure of
underwater light

a pale radiance
glossing the titles
behind your head

& the rectangle
of the bed where,
after long separation,

we begin to make
love quietly, bodies
turning like fish

in obedience to
the pull & tug
of your great tides.

John Montague
