This is sort of ... weird .. When I was stationed in Algiers, I hd several government figures tell me (secretly of course) that them having made Arabic their official language was the biggest mistake they ever made, and they should have chosen English. Most everyone there spoke French, some were much better at French than Arabic. Their courts, for example, conducted their business in Arabic, and it was then translated into French so everyone there could understand what was happening. No doubt we have a need for Arabic linguists. But as far as Arabic becoming very popular outside of official channels ... I don't know.
